How Often Should You Have an Eye Exam?

The American Optometric Association recommends:

  • Infants and Children: First exam between 6-12 months, then at age 3, before kindergarten, and annually thereafter
  • Adults (18-64): Every two years, or annually if you wear glasses or contacts
  • Seniors (65+): Annual comprehensive exams to monitor age-related changes
  • High-Risk Patients: More frequent exams if you have diabetes, family history of eye disease, or other risk factors
